Shennong was a deified figure in ancient China. He was not only the inventor of Chinese agriculture and medicine, but also the founder of Chinese tea use. There are three theories about "Shennong used tea to detoxify".
The first theory is that Shennong tasted and chewed the herbs in person during the collection process to study the characteristics and functions of the herbs to identify their leaves and understand their therapeutic effects. Once, he ate a poisonous plant and felt dizzy, numb in the mouth and tongue, and weak all over, so he lay down under a big tree to rest. A gust of wind passed, and pieces of green leaves fell with the wind. Shennong picked up a piece and put it in his mouth to chew. Although the taste was bitter, the root of the tongue produced saliva, the numbness gradually disappeared, and the mind became clear. So he collected the leaves and went home to study them, and found that it really had the effect of detoxification, and named it "tea"
The second theory is that Shennong often boiled the collected herbs to treat people. One day, when preparing to boil the medicine, a leaf suddenly fell into the pot. The color of the medicine soup gradually turned yellow and exuded a fragrance. After taking a sip, it tasted a bit bitter, but the aftertaste was sweet. At that time, Shennong was suffering from stomachache and abdominal vomiting, so he drank two large bowls while it was hot. The stomachache was gone, the diarrhea stopped, and he was in high spirits. He discovered that tea had the effects of quenching thirst, stopping vomiting, detoxifying, and refreshing.
The third theory is that Shennong was born with a crystal-clear stomach, and he could see everything moving in the stomach clearly. Once Shennong found that his stomach was uncomfortable, he saw black spots in his stomach, and his tongue was numb and his mouth was dry, and he felt chest tightness and shortness of breath. He chewed and swallowed a kind of leaf, and saw the juice of the leaf flowing up and down in his stomach. Wherever it went, the black spots disappeared, and he felt comfortable. Shennong realized that this kind of leaf had the effect of detoxification, so he figuratively called it "Cha", which gradually evolved into the word "Cha".
