It is said that Taiwan Dongding Oolong was developed by a man named Lin Fengchi who brought tea seedlings from Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province to Taiwan Province for planting. Lin Fengchi's ancestral home is in Fujian Province. One year, he heard that Fujian was going to hold an imperial examination and wanted to participate. However, because his family was very poor and had no money for the trip, the local gangsters asked for money. Before leaving, the villagers said to him: "When you arrive in Fujian, you must say hello to our fellow villagers in our ancestral home, saying that our fellow villagers in Taiwan miss them very much." Lin Fengchi passed the imperial examination. A few years later, he decided to return to Taiwan to visit his relatives. He brought 36 oolong tea seedlings back to Taiwan and planted them on Dongding Mountain in Lugu Township, Nantou. After careful cultivation and reproduction, a tea garden was built, and the tea picked and made was fragrant and delicious. Later, Lin Fengchi was ordered to go to Beijing. He presented this tea to Emperor Daoguang, who praised it highly after drinking it. Because this tea is produced in Dongding Mountain in Taiwan, it is named "Dongding Tea". From then on, this Taiwanese oolong tea is also called "Dongding Oolong Tea"
